Devlog: Game Updates - New Audio and Scoreboard Features
Introduction
In this update, I've introduced several exciting features and enhancements to improve the gameplay experience. I've added new audio elements to enhance feedback and immersion, a scoreboard feature to display the best lap times on the main menu, race music to energize the racing experience, and background music in the menu for a more engaging interface. Here’s a detailed look at the changes:
New Audio Features
- Engine Sounds:
- I've implemented dynamic engine sounds that change pitch based on the car's speed. This provides auditory feedback that enhances the driving experience.
- Idle and moving sounds were added to reflect the car’s state, giving players a more immersive experience.
- Countdown Sound:
- A sound plays at the start of the race. This enhances the tense start of the race
- Victory Sound:
- A celebratory sound plays when a player wins a race. This enhances the satisfaction of winning and adds to the excitement of the game.
- Similar to the speed boost sound, this audio clip can be assigned in the Inspector.
- Race Music:
- Energetic race music has been added to play during the race, providing an exciting and immersive atmosphere.
- The race music starts when the race begins and stops when the race ends.
- Menu Background Music:
- Calming background music has been added to the main menu, creating an inviting and engaging atmosphere for players as they navigate through the menu options.
Enhanced Scoreboard Feature
- Best Lap Time Storage:
- I've implemented functionality to store the best lap times between game sessions using PlayerPrefs. This ensures that players can keep track of their performance over time.
- Main Menu Display:
- A new UI element on the main menu displays the best lap time. This feature motivates players to improve their performance by giving them a visible record of their best laps.

- FinishLineSinglePlayer Script:
- Save Best Lap Time: The best lap time is now saved using PlayerPrefs.
- Win Sound: Added functionality to play a victory sound when the player wins.
- Race Music Control: Stopping the race music when the race finishes.
- SpeedBoost Script:
- Pickup Sound: Added a sound effect that plays when a player picks up the speed boost.
- BestLapTimeDisplay Script:
- Display Best Lap Time: This script fetches the best lap time from PlayerPrefs and displays it on the main menu.
